CASE STUDIES - RCA 17K

Radio had usual bad wiring for late 30’s radios using rubber wire. Speaker voice coil was open (defective). Replaced electromagnetic speaker with NOS 12 inch Permanent Magnet speaker, modified Power supply to account for choke, installed new audio output transformer (surface Mounted). New speaker terminals installed on back of chassis. Connected dial pointer and tuning indicator with new nylon dial cord, tension spring, and lubed moving parts. Replaced both dial lamps. 6H6 tube replaced (faulty). Replaced Electrolytics and 20 mfd audio stage capacitor. Replaced 5 wire segments and 9 capacitors. Replaced 1 defective resistor. Used DEOXIT on all switches. Radio plays outstanding on AM broadcast band, and acceptable on Short Wave in my basement shop. [NOTE – Did not replace all old rubber wires – only those that because of proximity or condition would be a hazard.]
